What our mission trip consists of:

Construction:  Tearing down old rotten wood shacks in order to build new sturdy and clean homes, average size 20' by 20'.  These will have two doors, three windows, a cement floor, a ceiling light, and a tin roof. (No plumbing will be installed.) Average cost of materials for each home is approximately $3000 USD.  Except for a few professional bricklayers and a local construction supervisor, all the manual labor will be provided by mission volunteers. It is expected that we will be able to build a home a day.

Furnishings: - For approximately $800 we will also provide basic furnishings for each new home built.  The furnishings will consist of new bed frames and mattresses, sofa, table and chairs as well as a tabletop cooking stove and in most cases a small refrigerator.  What we take for granted are life changing for the residents!

Medical/Hygiene:  Providing free hygiene and over the counter products to the new homeowners and the neighborhoods we work in.  Typical items include anti-bacterial ointments, bandages, toothbrushes and paste, vitamins, pain killers, wash cloths and towels, soaps and shampoos etc.  These items are donated, and the volunteers fly them down in their luggage and distribute daily.  These simple items are often lacking and greatly appreciated by the residents of the poor villages.

Education:  Working with local teachers in public grade schools.  Donations of school supplies such as paper, pencils, crayons, rulers, chalk, etc. will be sought and brought down from the USA.  Those with professional backgrounds in education will observe the teaching methods of the local teachers and hopefully be able to offer valuable suggestions for improving their teaching methods, while at the same time learning from the methods of the Dominican Republic teachers.

Just for fun:  A day on the nearby beautiful beach at Cabarete (northern shore of the Dominican Republic) will be a highlight shared by all volunteers from the USA and the Dominican Republic. If time permits, we will also visit one or two orphanages in the area and bring games, toys, magic, etc.

I would love to have you join us!
Fr. Joe Lally,
C.S.P.

What is the cost and what is included?

Cost:
$750 per week

Includes:

* Travel Insurance (purchased through Adelante). This includes travel, health, and accident insurance to and from the mission, and throughout the mission week. This is not trip cancellation insurance. You may purchase your own trip cancellation insurance separately when booking airline tickets. Cancellation insurance is optional, but it could cover your airline cost if you must cancel your trip for a covered reason. Please note that travel insurance in foreign countries often requires you (or your child) to pay any treatment or related costs up front in full. Be sure to save all receipts and documentation. You may then submit a claim to the insurance company for possible reimbursement, if covered.

* Lodging and Meals:  A single or double room at the Diamond Hotel in Cabarete, plus two meals daily (breakfast and dinner).  Lunch is often prepared by families in the neighborhoods where we work, but we recommend bringing healthy snacks, protein bars, or peanut butter.  These can be helpful if lunch is delayed or if you have specific food preferences.  Please Note:  Lodging can only be provided through Adelante at the Diamond Hotel with Saturday check-in and check-out due to the number of rooms available.  If you are arriving early or leaving late, please arrange for other hotel accommodations for those dates.  There are numerous other available rooms nearby if you wish to travel on a different date.

* All ground transportation while in the Dominican Republic:  Airport transfers to and from Puerto Plata airport (POP) and the hotel on Saturdays only, and transportation each day to and from the work sites and to any group activities with the mission community.  Adelante Youth Mission does not provide transportation to and from other Dominican airports such as Santiago (STI).  If you choose to fly through a different airport other than Puerto Plata (POP), or on any other day than a Saturday, you will need to arrange for your own transportation.  Adelante will provide airport transfers to and from Puerto Plata airport (POP) on 3/7/26, 3/14/26 and 3/21/26.

* Two Misión Joven T-shirts  to be worn while working on building sites or in the schools.  Additional shirts may be purchased for a fee.

* A Day For A Beach Visit

* Lifelong Memories and friendships you will cherish forever!

Additional Costs for U.S. Volunteers:

Airfare is not included.  We advise you to fly to and from Puerto Plata airport (POP).  Volunteers should arrange and pay for their airline transportation and email a copy of the flight information to us so we may arrange for your ground transportation.  The sooner you purchase, the better, as flights can get expensive the longer you wait.

The cost for one checked bag (45-50 lbs) packed with mission supplies.  Airline fees will vary.  Volunteers typically pack their personal clothing and other items into a carry-on and a personal item (such as a backpack) which are free on most airlines.

Deadlines and More:

* Week 1 - Students and Parents of Catholic Central High School - Application deadline November 17, 2025

* Week 2 - All other volunteers - Application deadline December 31, 2025

* A $100 deposit made payable to "Adelante Youth Mission" will be required soon after the online application is submitted.  You will be notified by email when and where to send this deposit.  The remaining balance of $650 will be due one month prior to departure - February 7, 2026 for Week 1 volunteers, and February 14, 2026 for Week 2 volunteers.

* Additional documents such as copy of passport, signed Student and Parent documents, references etc. will be listed on the application and includes instructions for sending.

We are grateful for your interest and look forward to sharing this journey with you.  Thank you for considering this mission of faith and service!
