Adelante Youth Mission 2018 - Misión Joven Dominicana
This past March, 17 U.S. missionaries along with 40 Dominican missionaries working side by side, built new homes for the very poor residents of Cabarate, conducted free medical clinics, provided water filtration and solar lanterns and provided education support in 5 grade schools.
BUILDING
During the two week mission, and along with local D.R. missionaries, we built and completed 23 new homes for people living in deplorable conditions. U.S. and D.R. volunteers working side by side is a terrific sight! We had numerous "Entire Home Sponsors" who donated large amounts to fund the building of an entire new home. We made and brought dedication plaques with us for the residents to keep and display, and to put a personal touch on their home. The gratitude they have warms our hearts and we feel blessed having been able to provide them with a sturdy and clean new home.

MEDICAL CLINICS
In 2018 we sponsored five medical clinics and saw over 900 patients, giving out hundreds of pounds of medicine we brought with us. We also purchased anti-parasite medicine while in the D.R. In addition we visited the local orphanage where most children are disabled. We brought with us donated wheel chairs, walkers and crutches that were so appreciated. We met one special patient living high in the hills, that had been bed-ridden for his entire 26 year life. We built him a new house, purchased a new bed for him, gave him a special equipped wheel chair and taught his grandmother how to care for him. Their needs are overwhelming. |
EDUCATION & WATER FILTRATION
On the educational scene we brought hundreds of pounds of educational supplies and taught in the classrooms of five different grade schools, teaching best professional development, and helping the teachers to be more effective in their classrooms. We brought with us 29 water filtration systems and set them up and taught the residents how to clean and maintain their new water filters. We also brought 150 solar lanterns. What we take for granted in the U.S., electricity (if even available) is often unreliable. Solar lanterns can be so helpful to families, especially with young children.

None of these works of love could have been accomplished without God's great and unconditional love, or without your most generous support. About 95.5% of all dollars donated goes to the direct benefit of these wonderful and hard-working Dominican Republic sisters and brothers. - Fr. Joachim Lally
