Adelante Youth Mission 2020 - Misión Joven Dominicana
In March of 2020, 16 U.S. missionaries along with 25 Dominican missionaries worked side by side to build new, clean and sturdy homes, along with conducting free medical clinics and providing educational support. Between the flooding at the beginning, and the beginning of the pandemic near the end, we persevered, and with God's blessings we still accomplished so much! The last two missionaries were literally on the last plane out of the country, before they shut everything down on March 18. All of this is only possible because of the generous donations received, the prayers of all of you, and the hard work of the volunteers.
BUILDING
During the two week mission, and along with local D.R. missionaries, 10 new homes were built for people living in deplorable conditions. In addition we included furnishings! What we take for granted - simple beds, table and chairs, a small propane stove, fans etc. are so appreciated by them! We made and brought "Home Sponsors" dedication plaques with us for the residents to keep and display, and to put a personal touch on their home. The gratitude they have warms our hearts and we feel blessed having been able to provide them with a sturdy and clean new home.

MEDICAL CLINICS
Thanks to the medicine and supplies from generous local U.S. donors, the medical team treated hundreds of patients! Three U.S. physicians and three D.R. physicians teamed up to distribute hundreds of pounds of mostly over the counter items that we all take for granted. We brought with us donated wheel chairs, walkers and crutches that were much needed and put to great use. We have also purchased land to build a small clinic in the future that will be able to serve those with no access before. Their needs are overwhelming. |
EDUCATION
The education team focused on working in different public schools to model the most advanced methods of how to teach first and second graders how to read. We brought hundreds of pounds of supplies! Reading is for a lifetime of success, growing and learning. You never unlearn how to read! |

None of these works of love could have been accomplished without God's great and unconditional love, or without your most generous support. About 95.5% of all dollars donated goes to the direct benefit of these wonderful and hard-working Dominican Republic sisters and brothers. - Fr. Joachim Lally
