Adelante Youth Mission 2022 - Misión Joven Dominicana
In March of 2022, 17 U.S. missionaries along with about 35 Dominican missionaries worked side by side to build new, clean and sturdy homes. Due to rising construction costs we ran over budget this year. But God and you provided and we were still able to complete 11 homes!! We continued with our Educational support in the schools as well as conducting vision clinics and distributed free eyeflasses. All of this is only possible because of the generous donations received, the prayers of all of you, and the hard work of the volunteers.
BUILDING
During the mission, and along with local D.R. missionaries, 11 new homes were built and furnished for people living in dire conditions. Because of the extremely expensive lumber costs, we built the 11 homes completely with concrete blocks. This resulted in many more challenging hours of labor to say the least. Once again we made and brought "Home Sponsors" dedication plaques with us for the residents to keep and display, and to put a personal touch on their new home. The gratitude they have warms our hearts and we feel blessed having been able to provide them with a sturdy and clean new home.

VISION CLINIC & HEALTHCARE
Due to the pandemic we did not conduct our usual medical clinics. But we did distribute over three hundred packets of toothpaste, brushes, soap and disinfectant wipes by going from home to home in various neighborhoods. In addition, our volunteer ophthalmologist from the D.R. performed 206 vision exams and distributed free eyeglasses, due to the generosity of the Lion's Club in Grand Rapids. All of these items, things we take for granted in the U.S., are wonderful gifts to them who have so little. |
EDUCATION
The education team focused on helping 50 students better understand the reading process, along with professional development with the teachers on anxiety, trauma, mindfulness and how to create a corner in their classrooms where students could calm/chill down. We gave the physical education teacher new exercise ideas and materials. And the director of the school was gifted with a new computer and all the needed equipment to install it! All 18 teachers in the school received hundreds of pounds of supplies! Reading is for a lifetime of success, growing and learning. You never unlearn how to read! |

None of these works of love could have been accomplished without God's great and unconditional love, or without your most generous support. About 95.5% of all dollars donated goes to the direct benefit of these wonderful and hard-working Dominican Republic sisters and brothers. - Fr. Joachim Lally
